Lateral Movement

Movement to the side. Movimiento lateral.

Latin Hip Motion

The rotation of the hips around the spine caused by the alternate bending and straightening action of the knees, as seen in most Latin and Rhythm dances. Rotación de las caderas alrededor de la columna causado por la acción alternativa de doblar y estirar las rodillas, tal y cómo se ve en los bailes Latinos.

Latin Walks

Forward or backward walks taken with Latin Hip Motion. Paseos hacia adelante ó hacia atrás efectuados utilizando el Movimiento Latino de caderas.

Leading

Effective communication of intended actions on the part of the man, through the use of his own body movements, and through one or more connections to his partner (physical and/or visual). Comunicación efectiva por parte del hombre de las acciones a relizar, utilizando para ello los movimientos de su propio cuerpo, y una ó más conexiones con su pareja ( física y/ó visual ).

Left Cross-Turn

A half-turn to the left, consisting of 3 steps, where the LF crosses in front of the RF on the third step. This is also known in Viennese Waltz and International Tango as a Basic Reverse Turn, but is often specified as a Cross-Turn when differentiating between this and a simple Closed Reverse Turn. Medio giro a la izquierda, que consiste en tres pasos, en los que el pié izquierdo cruza por delante del pié derecho en el tercer paso. También es conocido en el Vals Vienés y en el Tango Internacional cómo Basic Reverse Turn, pero a menudo se especifica cómo Cross-Turn para diferenciarlo del simple Closed Reverse Turn.

Leg Swing

A pendulum-type swinging action of the leg underneath the hip. Balanceo pendular de la pierna desde la cadera.

Lindy Hop

The grandfather of all forms of Swing, named after Charles Lindberg, and originating at the Savoy ballroom in the 1930's as a modified form of Charleston done in dance position. Lindy Hop is currently enjoying a revival with a new generation of swing clubs, musicians, and dancers. El "abuelo" de todas las formas de Swing, nominado así en honor a Charles Lindberg, tuvo su origin en el Salón Savoy en 1930 cómo una modificación del Charleston ejecutado en posición de baile. Lindy Timing

8-count timing as found in many of the Lindy basic actions, taken as follows: 1, 2, 3&4, 5, 6, 7&8, or 1&2, 3, 4, 5&6, 7, 8. The 8-count timing is used in almost all forms of swing, but is most commonly referred with this terminology in ballroom Swing and Jive. Conteo en 8 tiempos tal y cómo se efectúa en la mayor parte de las acciones del Lindy básico, efectuado de la siguiente forma: 1, 2, 3&4, 5, 6, 7&8, or 1&2, 3, 4, 5&6, 7, 8. Line(s)

(#1) Lines, real or imaginary, created by the positioning of the variuos body parts in a visually pleasing manner.

(#2) A pose which creates pleasing body lines, as described in #1.

Line Dancing

A type of non-partner dancing, primarily associated with the Country & Western genre, where a group of people will dance through a pre-choreogrphed sequence of movements in unison. The choreography is generally simple, as it is intended for mass-consumption. Examples of Line Dances are the Electric Slide, the Tush-Push, and the Slappin' Leather. Tipo de baile sin pareja, asociado principalmente con el género Country & Western, en el que un grupo de gente baila al unísono una secuencia previamente coreografiada. Esta coreografía suele ser simple, accesible fácilmente a todo el mundo. Ejemplos: Electric Slide, el Tush-Push, y el Slappin' Leather.

Linear

Movement which follows a straight direction, as opposed to movement which is rotational. Movimiento que sigue una línea recta, es lo opuesto a un movimiento rotacional.

Line of Dance

The counterclockwise flow of traffic around the dance floor. The Line of Dance represents the general direction of movement overall, and is only pertinent to dances that travel continuously around the floor, such as Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, and Samba. El tráfico alrededor de la pista de baile en sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj. La Linea de Danza representa la dirección general del movimiento, y tiene sentido en aquellos bailes en los que se recorre la pista incesantemente cómo son: Foxtrot, Vals, Tango, Quickstep, Pasodoble y Samba.

Lowering

The lowering of the body from a position of rise, through the action of the ankles/feet. Not to be confused with compression (see related definition). Bajar el cuerpo desde una posición elevada, gracias a la acción de los tobillos y los piés. No debe confundirse con compresión (Ver definición).

"L" Position

Dance position where man and lady stand at right-angles, lady on man's left side. Man holds lady's right hand in his left. Posición de Baile en la que el hombre y la mujer se encuentran formando un ángulo de 90º, la mujer en el lado iaquierdo del hombre. El hombre sostiene con su mano izquierda la mano derecha de la mujer.
