Backing...

A term used in the description of Alignments, to specify movement which is backward ( i.e. Backing LOD, Backing DC ). Término utilizado en la descripción de las Alineaciones, para especificar un movimiento hacia atrás. ( ej.. Contra LOD, Hacia atrás Diagonal Centro).

Back Line

The line across the back of the shoulders, from elbow to elbow. In Closed Position, a good Back Line is expansive and slightly rounded, with no pinching of the shoulder blades. Línea a través de la espalda, desde un codo hasta el otro. En Posición Cerrada, una buena línea es expansiva y ligeramente redondeada, sin encoger los hombros.

Backward Tango Close

A Tango Close which begins with the man stepping back on the left foot. Acción de cerrar la posición en el Tango la cual comienza con un paso atrás del hombre con el pié izquierdo.

Back-to-Back Position

Dance position where man and lady face away from each other. Posición de baile en la que el hombre y la mujer se dan la espalda.

Balance

The correct distribution of body weight between the feet or over the standing foot. Correcta distribución del peso entre ambos piés ó sobre el pié de apoyo.

Ball

(1) The rounded part of the foot between the toes and the arch.

(2) Desccribed in the footwork section of the chart, abbreviated "B". A "Ball" step is taken without the heel in contact with the floor, but with little or no rise resulting in the body.

(1) Parte "redondeada" del pié entre la punta y el arco.

(2) Descrito en la sección trabajo de los piés (footwork) de las cartas, (abreviatura "B"). Un paso en la "Bola" es el que se da sin que el talón toque el suelo, pero sin que ello apenas suponga elevación del cuerpo.

Ball-Change

A series of two consecutive steps, the first step being taken with the ball of the foot only. The rhythm is usually syncopated. Serie de dos pasos consecutivos, el primer paso se da sobre la bola del pié. El ritmo suele ser sincopado.

Ball-Flat

Described in the footwork section of the chart, abbreviated "BF". A "Ball-Flat" step is taken first with the ball of the foot in contact with the floor, and then with the whole foot flat. Descrito en la sección trabajo de los piés (footwork) de las cartas, (abreviatura "BF"). Un paso "Ball-Flat (Bola-plano)" es aquel que de da primero con la bola del pié y luego se establece contacto con el suelo con todo el pié ( pié plano ).

Ball-Heel

Described in the footwork section of the chart, abbreviated "BH". A "Ball-Heel (bola-talón)" step is taken first with the ball of the foot in contact with the floor, and then with the whole foot flat. It is used in the description of backward walks to indicate the delayed lowering action of the heel. Descrito en la sección trabajo de los piés (footwork) de las cartas, (abreviatura "BH"). Un paso "Ball-Heel" se da primero con la bola del pié y luego se apoya todo el pié. Se utiliza para describir un paso hacia atrás en el que se trata de indicar el efecto de retardo en la acción de bajar el talón.

Bar

A unit of music representing a group of consecutive beats. The number of beats in a bar is measured by the time signature, and is determined by the ratio and relative strength of the naturally strong and weak beats occuring in the music. Unidad de música que reprenta un grupo consecutivo de tiempos. Nosotros lo conocemos cómo compás. El número de tiempos en un compás depende depende del tiempo en el que haya sido escrito ( 2/4, 3/4, 4/4...).
Base The lower half of the body, including the feet, legs and hips. La parte inferior del cuerpo. Incluye los piés, las piernas y las caderas.

Basic Figure

A standardized step pattern which, together with other patterns, constitute the basis of a dance. Figura estandarizada de baile que, conjuntamente con otras figuras, constituye la base de un baile, ó coreografía.

Beat

(1) A steady and continuous pulse in the music, within which the rhythms are formed.

(2) One single pulse of music. Beats are usually arranged into groups of 2, 3, or 4, called measures.

(1) Repetición contínua de pulsos en la música a partir de los cuales se obtiene el ritmo.

(2) Cada una de las partes en que se divide un compás. Generalmente se encuentran en grupos de 2,3,ó 4, llamados tiempos ( measures en inglés ) .

Beat Value The duration of a note relative to the length of a measure. Example: The beat value of a quarter note is equal to one quarter of a measure. Duración de una nota relativa a la duración del compás. Ejemplo: The beat value of a quarter note is equal to one quarter of a measure.

Blending

The skillful combining of movements in a smooth and natural manner. Hábil combinación de movimientos de forma suave y natural.

Blocks of Weight

The primary sections of the upper body arranged vertically. From top down: Head, Shoulder/Chest, Abdomen, and Hips. Conjunto de las secciones primarias del cuerpo de arriba abajo. Cabeza, hombros, tronco, abdomen y caderas.

Body Contact

(1) The area of physical contact between man's and lady's body when in Closed, Promenade, or Outside Partner position.

(2) Any dance position where there is contact between the man and lady's body as described in #1.

(1) Area de contacto físico entre los cuerpos del hombre y de la mujer cuando adoptan una Posición Cerrada (closed), Posición Paseo (Promenade), ó Posición fuera de la pareja (Outside Partner) .

Body Flight

The natural release of body weight from a swinging action. Body Flight is found in the ballroom swing dances. Efecto de liberación del peso del cuerpo que parece "volar" más allá de la posición natural de equilibrio. Se aplica a los bailes standard, excepto el Tango.

Body Rise

Elevation of the body achieved by straightening the knees. Elevación delcuerpo por "estiramiento" de las rodillas.

Body Swing

A pendulum-type swinging action of the body. Tipo de acción del cuerpo que recuerda el modo de moverse de un péndulo.

Body Turn 

Amount of turn of the body when it is different from the feet. Cantidad de giro del cuerpo cuándo es diferente de la de los piés.

Body Weight

The concept of the weight of the entire body as a unit. The relationship of the body weight to the feet is determined primarily by the Center, but can be affected by the weight of individual body parts. El concepto de peso se refiere a todo el cuerpo cómo unidad. La relación del peso del cuerpo y los piés es determinada fundamentalmente por el Centro, pero puede ser afectada por el peso de partes individualizadas del cuerpo.

Bolero

A slow latin dance which originated as a form of Rumba, and still shares many of the same figures. Bolero differs from Rumba in its tempo and style of music and movement. Box Step

A pattern consisting of six steps, which when taken in its entirety, form the shape of a box. Figura que consta de seis pasos, que cuándo se ejecuta completa, recuerdan el perímetro de un cuadrado.

Break

A unit of two steps where the second step is taken in exactly the opposite direction from the first. Conjunto de dos pasos en la que el segundo se da exactamente en sentido contrario que el primero.

Breakaway

A break which is taken in open position, with partners moving in opposition. "Break" que se ejecuta en posición abierta, moviéndose los miembros de la pareja en direcciones opuestas .

Broken Sway

Body sway which does not result from the natural swinging action of the body, such as is found in an Oversway. Inclinación del cuerpo ( sway ) que no es el resultado natural de una acción de "penduleo", por ejemplo el Oversway.

Bronze Level

The first complete level of the American Medalist System, representing the foundation of movements and basic dance concepts. El primer nivel completo del Sistema de Medallas, que representa el conocimiento de los fundamentos y conceptos básicos del baile.

Brush

The action of closing the moving foot to the standing foot, without changing weight, between steps. Acción de juntar el pié que se mueve ( moving foot ) con el pié de apoyo ( standing foot ), sin intercambio de peso entre pasos consecutivos.
